North York Moors Group Food Tasting Tour


This group tour for a minimum of 10 people is the perfect way to celebrate a landmark birthday with friends or treat your staff to a fascinating, tasty day out.

You will be met at a prearranged location in the York area and driven by private minibus to your first stop at Low Bell End Farm where you will meet farmer Tracey who will serve you a delicious farm reared pheasant sausage sandwich* from the converted barn, while telling you all about life on the farm as you enjoy the views across historic Rosedale.

From there you’ll enjoy a 30 minute drive over the famous heather moorland and down through the stunning Fryup dales to a special community in the village of Botton. This is a totally self-sufficient village supporting people with learning difficulties. The residents live and work in the village and produce everything from fruit and veg, their own meat, cheeses and baked goods. Your hosts will give you a short tour showing you the village and you will have the opportunity to sample some of their award-winning products. You will have a chance to wander the village and shops on your own before following a 45 minute scenic route to the wonderful town of Helmsley.

Heading straight to the historic Black Swan Hotel which dates back to the Tudor Period,  you will meet the team and sample their sweet local desserts.  After a little free time to explore Helmsley you’ll take the short drive to Ampleforth Abbey and college, a working abbey famous for its Apple orchards and cider.

Their guide will take us to the ancient orchards and help us discover the abbey’s history and taste some of the delicious cider and liquors*. From here we head back to York through some quaint villages and rolling Yorkshire countryside, satisfied we have discovered a true taste of Yorkshire.

*Vegetarians and non-drinkers are also catered for.

What you need to know
The tours are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of inclement weather, you will be able to go inside many of the establishments on the tour.

For anyone with a dietary restriction – vegetarian, gluten free, allergy etc. a suitable alternative can be arranged with plenty of advance notice.

How much will it cost?
The private group tour costs £60 per person for a minimum of 10 people.

The North York Moors Group Food Tasting Tour is organised by Kay Atkinson and her company Yorkshire Appetite.

Kay loves nothing more than wandering around a new place soaking up the sounds and smells, finding out about history and culture and getting a feel for a place and finally, trying local foods and drinks. Hence her reason for starting Yorkshire Appetite.

This is the first tour that the company have run with a minibus and private tour guide and promises to introduce your group to the stunning scenery of the North York Moors and the tasty food that is grown and produced there.
