In a nutshell

Where is it?
Sunken Studio is housed in a period property with steep steps leading into the property, and down to the studio. Unfortunately there is no lift access. If you have any concerns about specific access requirements please contact the gift experience team before booking.

Length of experience
The Pottery Throwing Experience for One or Two lasts 3 hours with 15 minutes for refreshments at the beginning of each session.

What you need to know
This experience is for adults (18+) only.

Rebecca has a dog who is vocal but friendly and does not shed hair. She will be confined to another space during workshops.

This experience is available Wednesday-Sunday, 10:00-13:00, 14:00-17:00 or 18:00-21:00.

Finished works, fired and glazed (where needed), will be available for collection from Sunken Studio within 28 days after the session. If you are unable to collect we can arrange for your work to be delivered for £10 per address.

How much will it cost?
The Pottery Throwing Experience for One or Two costs £120. It is the same price whether one person or two people attend.

Pottery Throwing Experience for One or Two

£120.00 FOR ONE OR TWO PEOPLE

Come alone or with a friend and learn how to make pots using a traditional Potter’s Wheel. Professional ceramist Rebecca will introduce you to the basics of throwing and guide you through the session. You’ll practice throwing cylindrical pots and learn how to centre, open, collar, pull, shape, finish and wire off your finished work.

Throwing Experience for One

This experience will give you one-to-one tuition and plenty of practice time. At the end of the session you’ll be invited to select your best two pots and they’ll be fired and glazed ready for you to collect.

Throwing Experience for Two

If you’d prefer to come with a friend, you’ll each take a turn on the wheel. You’ll alternate between practicing how to throw and making pinch pots. At the end of the session you’ll each be invited to select your best four pots and they’ll be fired and glazed ready for you to collect.

This taster course includes access to a wide range of custom-made tools and resources that have been designed, and made, by Sunken Studio.

Your taster course will include:

  • Materials.
  • Refreshments.
  • Post production costs: firings and glazing (where needed).
  • Packaging. Postage is not included.

This is a pottery throwing experience using a potters wheel.  Rebecca also runs hand-building pottery experience where you will learn to make pots by hand.

The Pottery Throwing Experience for One or Two is run by ceramicist Rebecca Catterall of Sunken Studio. Rebecca has been working with clay for over 25 years.

Rebecca is a fully qualified and experienced tutor and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She has received several prizes and awards for her work. Rebecca has devised and delivered creative programs in a range of educational settings, both formal and informal.

All the Sunken Studio ceramics packages include access to a wide range of custom-made tools and resources that have been designed, and made, by Sunken Studio.

Sunken Studio also offer a range of course suitable for larger groups including a ceramics taster for 8 people in Skipton and a ceramics taster experience for up to 12 people in Leeds. She also offers ceramics taster courses for two to four people with lunch as an option.
