A relaxed half-day adventure for anyone who would enjoy escaping into the woods, learning practical skills and discovering more about the natural world.

Set in a delightful private woodland near York, this 2.5-hour Bushcraft Basics and Forest Skills Experience offers a gentle, guided introduction to life in the forest. Rather than simply watching demonstrations, participants will be encouraged to have a go, practise each technique and develop their skills with friendly expert instruction.

They will begin by identifying suitable firewood before learning how to use a ferro rod to light and sustain a fire. Next, they will safely use a bushcraft saw and knife to complete a simple woodland carving project.

A guided nature walk through Forest Quest’s wood will reveal more about the trees, wildlife and habitats that make their home there. Tea and coffee are also provided, offering time to relax and enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings.

Usually held on Sunday mornings and afternoons, with occasional alternative dates available, the experience can be booked for between one and eight people. Other individuals or groups may attend the same session, adding to its friendly and sociable atmosphere.

The experience is suitable for adults and accompanying children aged 14 or over. Sessions continue in wet weather, so participants should arrive dressed for the outdoors with suitable waterproof clothing. Full directions are provided once the date has been scheduled.

Whilst aimed at adults, children over the age of 14 may be included in the group.
You may be in a group with other people if you are booking for less than 8 people.
Sessions are held throughout the year usually on a Sunday but other days may be available.

How long do I have to book? You’ll have a total of 12 months from the date of purchase – 6 months to activate your voucher code, and 6 months from activation to book your chosen experience.
