When life gets busy with work, kids, partners, and dogs carving out proper time with your mum can feel impossible. That’s why over the years, Mum and I have made a point of celebrating Mother’s Day with an experience we can share together. Something fun, meaningful, and a bit different from the usual flowers or box of chocolates.
Running Uniquely Local means I’ve had the chance to try out some of the best Yorkshire experience days and Mum’s always up for joining me. It’s research and bonding time. Win-win!
Here are three of our all-time favourite Yorkshire experiences for Mother’s Day each one tried, tested, and loved.
1. TWO HOUR SPA EXPERIENCE at Swinton Estate
Relaxing spa experience for mums who deserve a break
There’s nothing Mum and I love more than a couple of hours of spa bliss and the luxury spa and country club at Swinton Estate is easily one of our favourites in Yorkshire.
From the moment you walk in, the stress just melts away. The thermal suite includes steam rooms, hydrotherapy pools, a sauna, and even a cold-water plunge pool (if you’re brave). Whether we opt for breakfast, lunch, or afternoon tea, the food is always spot on – proper Yorkshire hospitality in a stunning setting.
We usually follow it up with a wander around the stunning estate gardens or a brisk walk to Druid’s Temple which is always a hit. It’s the kind of day that leaves you floating home and sleeping like a baby.
2. Silver Fidget Ring Jewellery Workshop
Crafting experience for mums who love creativity and keepsakes
This was another Mother’s Day present that hit the mark. My mum’s always been a keen crafter, so a day of jewellery making in Yorkshire was the perfect experience gift.
We joined Helen Drye at Silver & Stone Jewellery in Riccall to make our own silver fidget rings – chunky bands with three smaller hammered and twisted silver rings that spin around the band. (Very therapeutic!)
We sawed, hammered, soldered and laughed our way through the day and both came away with rings we were genuinely proud of. Helen’s a brilliant teacher, offering just the right mix of hands-on guidance and creative freedom.
This one’s perfect if you’re looking for a meaningful gift for a crafty mum – you’ll both come away with more than just a memory.
3. Pottery Throwing Session

Back when I was in sixth form, Mum and I used to go to pottery class together once a week. So a few years ago, we decided to revisit the messy magic of the wheel with a pottery throwing experience in Yorkshire.
We laughed so much during that session. It was like muscle memory kicked in even if the end results were more “rustic chic” than pottery throwdown material.
The instructor gave us just enough direction to feel confident, and we each came away with a wobbly but wonderful pot. Whether your mum is a natural creative or just up for something fun and different, this is a brilliant way to reconnect and make something together.
