7 Unique Valentine’s Gift Ideas

Stuck for inspiration? Looking for unusual and thoughtful Valentine’s gift ideas? Give something different this Valentine’s Day with some choice highlights from Uniquely Local’s 2018 Yorkshire gift experiences…

1. Recreate the pottery scene from ‘Ghost’

Your chance to become Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore for a few hours. Professional ceramicist Rebecca Catterall of Sunken Studio will show you and a friend how to throw pottery, as you alternate on the wheel learning to throw and make pinch pots. At the end of the session your 4 best efforts are selected for firing and glazing as a memento of your day.

The Pottery Throwing Gift Experience is in Roundhay, Leeds and costs £120 for one or two attendees. Cue Unchained Melody…

2. Luxury chocolate making workshop

Chocolates are a cop-out Valentine’s gift, but a luxury chocolate making workshop is a gift that will keep on giving. Give a man a box of luxury chocolates and you feed him for a day; teach a man how to make luxury chocolates and he can make personal, hand-made gifts for the rest of his life.

Our Luxury Chocolate Making Workshop is set in the picturesque village of Hutton-le-Hole, North Yorkshire and is £65pp including lunch and refreshments.

3. A two night shepherd hut glamping experience

Take a romantic break in a snug, cosy shepherds hut nestled at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds. Each hut is extremely well-appointed with a wood burner, TV/DVD, mini fridge, barbecue, bike store, private shower room and more.

York is a short drive away as is the foodie town of Malton and myriad country walks in the wolds. A 2 night stay is £189 for 2 adults and a child (the latter being strictly optional).

4. Hidden Gems food tour of York

One of our best-selling gift experiences is this unique jaunt around York’s hidden foodie scene. Climb creaking staircases to a homely Korean kitchen or discover medieval delicacies in a hidden Guildhall. 7 venues in total, with food and drink served at each.

The Hidden Gems food tour of York is £60pp.

5. Signature spa experience with 3 course lunch

A spa experience with a difference – a luxury spa with a distinctly personal touch and a holistic vibe. My Little Farm Spa is nestled in a valley in the heart of the West Yorkshire countryside, yet is within a stones throw of Huddersfield, Leeds and Bradford.

Surround yourself with far reaching views of lush countryside, relax and get well fed with delicious home-cooked meals.

The Relax and Restore experience is from £119pp including lunch.

6. Paint and pamper in the Dales

The perfect gift for those 1) love the great Yorkshire countryside, 2) have artistic leanings and 3) like being looked after.

The day kicks off with tea, coffee, homemade biscuits, buns, scones and cream. Later in the day you will be treated to a locally-sourced home-cooked 2 course lunch. Either side of all this lovely food, artist Katherine Ralph will introduce you to landscape and still-life painting and drawing.

The Paint and Pamper Gift Experince takes place near Leyburn, North Yorks and is £75pp.

7. Evening vineyard tour and tasting with 3 course meal

France has Burgundy, Italy has Tuscany and Spain La Rioja. In Yorkshire we have the picture postcard village of Nun Monkton, just off the A59 between York and Harrogate.

Another one of our most popular experiences, Chris and Gillian Spakouskas – the proprietors of the Yorkshire Heart vineyard – are your hosts for this evening comprising a tour, wine tasting (naturellement) and a 3-course meal.

The evening tour, tasting and meal package is £40pp.
