This is a fantastic gift for animal mad friends or family who would love to try their hands at being an ‘Alpaca Wrangler for the Day’. You will experience the many aspects of caring for alpacas in this alpaca keeper experience. With a maximum group size of two people you will enjoy learning about many aspects of alpaca husbandry including:
- Meeting and feeding all the alpaca residents and other animals at Beacon Farm.
- Learning how to herd, catch, halter and walk an alpaca.
- ‘Seasonal’ – you may get the opportunity to halter train last years cria (youngsters)
- Learn how to carry out husbandry tasks such as health checking, condition scoring and toe trimming.
- Select your chosen alpaca for the afternoon alpaca walk.All participants will receive an Alpaca Wrangler certificate, photo with their alpaca and an alpaca husbandry fact sheet.
- This is a personal experience which may be tailored to individual needs, participants must have a reasonable level of fitness to take part.
- Lunch time is 1200 noon till 1pm bring your own food, drinks are provided
- Available most weekends and some weekdays by arrangement

The experience will take place at Beacon Alpacas, Suncliffe Beacon Farm, Malton Street, Husthwaite, YO61 4PD
The Alpaca Wrangler for the Day experience is a full day from 9.30am to 3.30pm
All of our vouchers are fully flexible and can be redeemed against any of our listed experiences. The recipient may exchange their voucher if they don't like the experience they have been bought. Just see our FAQs for details.
Children must be 11 years old or over and accompanied by a fee paying adult. Participants must be able to walk over a mile on fields and footpaths.
Physical activity:
The farm is on a gentle slope and we walk over grassy tracks and paths. The experience is not suitable for people with walking difficulties or young children. However, farm visits can be arranged by appointment.
Clothing and Equipment:
Waterproof footwear with closed toes is advisable and gloves and scarves on cold days are a must. You are walking in the countryside and the grass may be wet, and some areas can be muddy.
Weather:
The experience will take place if it is drizzling or light rain but not if it's pouring with rain; on some days we can postpone your experience for a short while, or we can rearrange for another date. Please call for advice before you leave if the weather is bad.
