Introduction to Blacksmithing Experience Day in Sheffield

Step into the heat of the forge and try your hand at the ancient art of blacksmithing in the heart of Sheffield—aka the steel city!

This one-day blacksmithing workshop takes place in a real working forge inside Portland Works, a 145-year-old former cutlery works bursting with industrial heritage. You’ll be learning from expert blacksmiths and using traditional tools (plus the power hammer) to forge, form and finish your own unique metal creation.

No experience? No problem. All you need is a willingness to get stuck in. Everything else – tools, materials, and protective gear – is provided, along with a full safety briefing to keep things sensible while you’re swinging hammers.

You’ll get to grips with the core techniques of blacksmithing: heating, forging, forming and finishing. Best of all, you’ll leave with your own handcrafted piece to take home – a proper keepsake that proves you’ve mastered fire and steel (or at least given it a very good go).
