Introduction to Blacksmithing Experience Day in Sheffield
Learn traditional blacksmithing in the heart of steel city

This one-day blacksmithing workshop takes place in a real working forge inside Portland Works, a 145-year-old former cutlery works bursting with industrial heritage. You’ll be learning from expert blacksmiths and using traditional tools (plus the power hammer) to forge, form and finish your own unique metal creation.
No experience? No problem. All you need is a willingness to get stuck in. Everything else – tools, materials, and protective gear – is provided, along with a full safety briefing to keep things sensible while you’re swinging hammers.
You’ll get to grips with the core techniques of blacksmithing: heating, forging, forming and finishing. Best of all, you’ll leave with your own handcrafted piece to take home – a proper keepsake that proves you’ve mastered fire and steel (or at least given it a very good go).

Meet the Makers: Forging Ahead in Sheffield
Tucked away in the heart of Sheffield’s historic Portland Works – the very birthplace of stainless steel cutlery – this talented team of blacksmiths is redefining what it means to work with metal. Founded in 2019, they bring together a unique mix of backgrounds spanning traditional and industrial smithing, graphic and product design, fine art, and engineering.
They’re problem solvers at heart, driven by a love of making things and a curiosity for pushing boundaries. While they embrace the time-honoured techniques of blacksmithing, they’re not afraid to mix in a bit of modernity – blending heritage skills with cutting-edge design to create striking, functional pieces that feel fresh, not fusty.
Your blacksmithing experience will take place at Portland Works in Sheffield.
This is a full day experience including lunch and refreshments.

The introductory blacksmithing experience costs £200 for one person, £380 (5% off) for two people, £570 (5% off) for 3 people and £720 (10% off) for 4 people
