Ten Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day in Yorkshire
Uniquely Local ways to treat your mum
What’s on your mum’s wish list this Mother’s Day?
Mums. They’re so busy looking out for everyone else they sometimes forget about themselves. But this March the spotlight shines brightly on mums, and on women in general. International Women’s Day falls on Tuesday 8th March and Mother’s Day is on Sunday 27th, the same day the clocks leap forward bringing us longer, lighter days. That’s plenty of reasons to celebrate!
Pure indulgence, trying a new creative skill, or enjoying time together?
Whatever her heart’s desire, Uniquely Local has some wonderful Yorkshire experiences to make your mum feel special. And let’s not forget step-mums, fairy godmothers, and ourselves!
You might like to spoil her with a facial or reflexology session in York, an ayurvedic massage in Leeds or the ultimate pampering experience at the Alexandra House Spa in Huddersfield.
If she’s creative, maybe give her some time out with a full-day’s art workshop, a lampshade making session or art experience. Or celebrate with her on a special Vegan Food Tour, a stained-glass hearts workshop in Harrogate or a fun art party with Prosecco and afternoon tea in Leeds.
All mums love to be pampered
Here’s how to spoil her…
A one-hour reflexology session in York is wonderfully relaxing and rebalancing. Specialist therapist Renni Prelle works on areas of the hands and feet connected to problem areas of the body. Her approach is to identify any imbalance and treat the whole person to achieve a state of harmony. The treatment works well for women experiencing maternity or menopause. It’s great for stress relief and helps to improve sleep and mood.
We love this luxurious one-hour facial massage in York, not just for the renewing effect on skin but for how good it feels! Using natural and vegan products, highly qualified therapist Renni Prelle works on acupressure areas of the face, neck, shoulders and head to release tension and improve circulation while soothing and hydrating the skin. This treatment also helps to relieve headaches, eye strain or sinusitis. Combine it with a day out in lovely York!
Rejuvenating, energising or healing?
Mums in Leeds can enjoy an Ayurvedic yoga massage, a deep tissue massage with natural oils, adapted to your needs. It might be relaxing, soothing, rejuvenating, energising or healing… it’s up to you. This personalised treatment is delivered by a qualified therapist trained in this wonderful technique. Using hands and feet to apply natural oils and special plant extracts, the massage warms and softens muscles, helps breathing and improves circulation. Supported by gentle movements and yoga stretches, the therapy works on a physical, emotional and mental level to induce clarity, peace and calmness. Bring it on we say!

Arty experiences for mums and others
This taster art experience day in the lovely market town of Penistone is just fabulous! Make it even more special by adding on an overnight stay. It’s a perfect treat for mum, plus one (daughter or son?). The venue is Lyndene Art Studio (and award-winning B&B) on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Hosts Paul and Sophie offer a warm welcome with refreshments and a cold platter lunch. Paul will demonstrate a range of drawing and painting techniques in different media, including charcoal, pastels, watercolours, acrylics and inks. There will be plenty of time to complete a selection of artwork to take home.
A lampshade-making workshop near Holmfirth is an ideal gift experience for craft-loving mums who’d like to learn how to create something unique and personal for their home. It’s also a fun activity to do together. This half day workshop, morning or afternoon, is run by Alison in her home studio in the beautiful Holme Valley. You’ll create your own drum-style lampshade, using either your own choice of fabric or from a selection available on the day. Refreshments, detailed instructions, fabrics and materials are included.
A shared experience for you and your mum
This Mother’s Day why not treat your mum to a fabulous food tour of Harrogate, discovering the best food and drink venues of this beautiful Yorkshire Spa town? Led by a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll spend the afternoon strolling around the historical and cultural centre of Harrogate, sampling delicious local food and drinks along the way. You’ll get a little history of the beautiful spa town as well as meeting other ‘foodies’ and sharing some time eating and drinking together.
A group crafting activity is a really lovely way of spending quality time with mum. You can natter while you craft and it really doesn’t matter how talented you are at the craft. It’s the time spent together that is important. Whether you’re into painting or pottery we’ve got some lovely craft activities dotted around Yorkshire for you and mum to try out. You’ll often get to leave with a lovely momento of your time together, having put the world to rights and enjoyed some precious adult play time.
