This five-hour foraging experience is a brilliant way to slow down, step outside and discover the wild ingredients hiding in plain sight across Yorkshire and the North West.
Led by a professional foraging guide, the day begins with an introduction to safe, ethical and responsible foraging. Guests will learn about the laws around wild food, how to harvest sustainably and why good foraging is as much about leaving things behind as it is about gathering ingredients.
The guided walk covers around 3 to 4 kilometres of paths, with plenty of time to explore edible wild plants, seasonal ingredients and native species found in hedgerows, woodland and open countryside. Along the way, guests will learn how to identify useful wild foods, spot poisonous lookalikes and understand more about the landscapes around them. Handy stuff, really, unless “mystery leaf roulette” was on the menu.
This is a sociable, relaxed and eye-opening day out for anyone interested in nature, sustainability, local food or learning a new skill. It is also a lovely experience gift for curious cooks, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys discovering something a little different close to home.
The experience ends with a generous seasonal wild food feast, prepared in advance by the tutor. Menus change with the seasons and often include more than 30 wild ingredients across up to five courses, with two drinks included. Expect creative, flavour-packed dishes inspired by the wild ingredients found in the local landscape, from wild garlic pesto and nettle quiche to mushroom risotto, pickled wild vegetables, roasted chestnuts and more.
With locations across Yorkshire and the North West, this guided foraging experience offers a memorable way to explore the countryside, meet like-minded people and taste the extraordinary flavours growing right on the doorstep.
