Canals to Canapes – Manchester Through Food

The Canals to Canapes Food Tour of Manchester is run by Manchester Bites. We are a bunch of friendly, food loving Mancunians who love nothing better than to show off our amazing city. We know that food tours are not just about the food. They are about the stories and lives behind the dishes.

The food is a big part though.

Our mission is to tell Manchester’s fascinating story through food. And to show you the hidden gems even some locals don’t know about. On every food tour we are proud to support only locally owned, independent businesses.

Our founder James took his first food tour in Buenos Aires Argentina in 2013. It was a secret Parilla tour. The group ate at restaurants that only the local taxi drivers knew existed. From that moment on it became James’s obsession to find the spots only the locals know about.

He started his first food tour business when he lived in Singapore in 2015. Singabites has been taking tourists around Singapore eating the real local food ever since.

Returning to his home town of Manchester in 2019 James knew it was time to showcase the food heros of this town to the rest of the world. And that’s how Manchester Bites food tours came about.

Since 2021 we have shown thousands of guests around our city, becoming the top rated food tour in Manchester on both Tripadvisor and Google reviews. We’re incredibly proud and honoured to support some of the best independents in Manchester and we’re always on the look out for new vendors and traders.

Taking a Manchester Bites food tour is like being shown around our city by a local friend. We keep the groups small and we avoid any cheap gimmicks or cringeworthy faux Manchester realted kitch (which noone from Manchester would say or do). Just a down to earth, fun, friendly and most importantly delicious way to explore our home.
