Give someone two peaceful hours in the woods, where the only thing they need to achieve is slowing down.
This guided forest bathing and woodland wellbeing walk takes place at Allerthorpe Woods, a peaceful Forestry England site just outside York. Led by Forage Yourself Happy, it is a gentle, restorative experience designed to help guests step away from busy everyday life and reconnect with nature in a calm, practical and accessible way.
Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, often translated as forest bathing, this is not a hike, fitness walk or route march through the trees. Instead, guests are guided slowly through the pine woodland using simple sensory, mindfulness and nature connection practices. Think birdsong, fresh woodland air, quiet observation, gentle movement and proper time away from screens.
During the session, guests may explore mindful walking beneath the pine canopy, seasonal woodland awareness, gentle guided relaxation, sensory nature practices and grounding moments with woodland tea, depending on the weather and season. There may also be opportunities to learn more about plants, fungi, wildlife and the natural rhythms of Allerthorpe Woods as the forest changes throughout the year.
This experience is ideal for anyone feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, creatively stuck or simply in need of a peaceful morning outdoors. It is beginner-friendly, small-group and inclusive, with a gentle approach that suits those who want the benefits of time in nature without needing any previous experience of mindfulness, meditation or forest bathing.
Guests should dress for the weather, wear suitable footwear for woodland paths and come ready to slow down, breathe deeply and let the woods do their thing.
