This half-day foraging experience is a proper introduction to the wild food world. Running from 10:00am to 2:00pm and finishing with a well-earned foraged lunch, it is perfectly pitched for anyone curious about what is edible, what is delicious, and what should absolutely not be going anywhere near a frying pan.

The morning begins with a guided foraging walk covering around one to two miles, taken at an easy pace. Along the way, participants learn to confidently identify 15–20 common wild plants and fungi, with plenty of time spent on toxic lookalikes. Expect clear, practical guidance on foraging laws, seasonal eating and safety, all delivered in a relaxed, friendly way that makes information actually stick.

Wild food samples are tasted along the route, building up knowledge and appetite before the experience rounds off with a foraged lunch that brings the landscape straight to the plate. Think simple, flavour-packed dishes that show just how good wild ingredients can be when treated with a bit of respect and know-how. A follow-up email is included too, so participants can revisit what they learned without relying on memory and crossed fingers.

Ideal for first-time foragers, enthusiastic dabblers or anyone after a short but immersive wild food experience, this is a brilliant way to reconnect with nature, sharpen identification skills and enjoy a cracking lunch that literally grew nearby. Why just walk through the countryside when it can feed you as well?

Half Day Foraging Experience in Sheffield with Foraged Lunch

James Hill - The Forager WithinThe Half Day Foraging Experience in Sheffield with Foraged Lunch is offered by The Forager Within, James Hill.

James has been surrounded by nature from a young age. He grew up on a farm in North Yorkshire and has always loved the countryside, wild food, and the natural world at large. His love of foraging started on nature walks with his parents where they would observe the wildlife, soak up the trees, pick field mushrooms for dinner, blackberries to eat on the go and nettles for soup.

In adulthood James became disconnected from the natural world, eventually going down a dark path that led him to lose everything. When he hit rock bottom in 2015  reconnecting to nature and the countryside through walking, hiking, and foraging helped him to re-build and transform his life, mentally and emotionally.

During lockdown James realised  just how positive foraging and everything else he did that connected him to nature had been for him. It was during this time, when he was fuloughed from his job in the travel industry, that he completed his Foraging Diploma.

I believe that re-connecting with the natural world can have amazingly positive effects on your happiness, confidence and physical and mental health.
