A fascinating experience for fungi and foraging enthusiasts!
Join professional forager Elliot Nicholls and the Yorkshire Mushroom Emporium team on a 3-hour adventure into the world of wild mushrooms. The experience kicks off with an informative introduction to foraging, where you’ll learn the basics and get a run down of the itinerary.
The heart of the adventure is a leisurely 3-4 mile guided walk through woodland. Elliot, your expert guide, will lead you off the beaten path and onto hidden trails, all while teaching you to identify and ethically collect edible mushrooms. Along the way, you’ll take breaks to discuss your discoveries in detail.
After exploring the woodland, you will finish with time for a break and to share stories with your fellow foragers over a refreshing cup of tea. This isn’t just any tea – it’s specially prepared either using foraged herbs or infused with the unique flavour of Yorkshire Mushroom Emporium’s Lion’s Mane Extract!
Each person will be able to take home some freshly cultivated mushrooms as well as anything they find during their walk!
Foraging Experience near Leeds
The Foraging Experience near Leeds are run in collaboration with the Yorkshire Mushroom Emporium and forager Elliot Nicholls. The Mushroom Emporium is the brainchild of five school friends from West Yorkshire.
Their aim is to revolutionise their local food network with their sustainable, low tech mushroom farm in Ilkley. The mushrooms are grown on waste coffee grounds collected from local businesses which would usually just go to waste.
They have big plans to help the world by bringing sustainably-grown British produce to local people and want to lead the way in alternative food production by staying true to their vision of fresh, organic, and delicious produce, grown in an environmentally and socially sustainable way.
Forager Elliot grew up in a rural farming town in the UK and started to learn about local wildlife from a young age. It was during lockdown that this curiosity evolved into an obsession when he found himself settled in the middle of the Scottish woods surrounded by autumnal fungi and ancient woodland. As a self-confessed mycophile and wild food enthusiast he jumps at any opportunity to discuss the medicinal, nutritional, and mindful benefits that come with foraging.
Foraging sessions will be held in various locations in and around North Leeds, West Yorkshire.
The foraging course is approximately 3 hours
All of our vouchers are fully flexible and can be redeemed against any of our listed experiences. The recipient may exchange their voucher if they don't like the experience they have been bought. Just see our FAQs for details.
You will be foraging in an outdoor location and walking on well-established paths to slightly less trodden routes with regular breaks to discuss any species found on the walk. Foragers are responsible for what they choose to ingest.
