Learn a variety of wood working techniques in this full day course
This is a great gift for anyone wanting to take time out and learn a new skill. All of Neil’s courses can be tailored to the needs of the individual, whether you are a novice, beginner, or want to explore a different aspect to your hobby.
The full day introduction to woodturning course is designed to give you an overview of the traditional techniques and tooling involved in woodturning.
Safety equipment and materials are all provided for the day.
A safety briefing is quickly followed by getting hands on.
You will begin with bowl turning where you will be given a selection of blanks to choose from which you then prepare yourself to ready it for the lathe.
A little wood theory is included as you make, to explain why the wood cuts like it does, as well as touching on sharpening techniques.
After a light lunch (which is included), you will move on to some spindle turning where you will make a garden dibber or a honey dipper. These projects have been chosen to introduce you to a much wider variety of tools than you would use on a bowl.
Next, you will turn your attention to kit turning and make a pen. This is a quality product which can be used day to day and is refillable with readily available Parker refills.
If you have an interest in one particular aspect of turning, the course content can be varied to suit.
A full day course is approximately 8 hours, including breaks.
Refreshments and lunch are included. Special dietary requirements can be catered for if notified in advance.
